We know, we know, it’s only barely September, but if you’re summer has been as hot as ours, perhaps you too are ready for Fall-or as many of us endearingly call it, Autumn. It is time for pumpkin everything and the changing of the leaves. In reminiscing about the beauty that is Autumn and being so ready for it, we couldn’t help but think of compiling a list of the best travel destinations to see the leaves in their beautiful orange, red, yellow and perhaps even purple hues. So, as you guessed, here it is. Gaab Travel International’s list of the FIVE best destinations to see Autumn leaves in the trees. You’ll notice, some of destinations are right here in the US, while some are in other countries, for our clients who enjoy traveling abroad.

Door County, Wisconsin

This place is adorable. Ok, no pun intended, but seriously it is. Anytime of year, you are in for a treat, but in the fall you can enjoy the local art, culinary style, and festivals, oh so many Fall festivals. From pumpkin decorating to parades, roadside stands, apple picking. It’s all rather wonderful and quaint. You can choose to stay at a great B&B, a hotel, or perhaps even camping. Remember though, that as we love Autumn in Door County, so do a lot of other folks. Make sure to get those reservations set up early!

Alton Bay, New Hampshire

Oh dear. Is this place not the best? Of course we commend staying in a lakefront property to see double, with gorgeous reflections like this in the water. You can explore sweet little eateries, shops, and even take an Autumn Leaf tour in a train, through the countryside. This could make for a nice little family vacation in the fall, and or course is also recommended for those couples who want some alone time. Don’t forget go boating in the lake!

Loire Valley, France

Experience the French Countryside in form of this beautiful valley. Rows and rows or changing leaves in the vineyards are what await you in the Fall. In case you didn’t realize, Fall is also harvesting season. This means that you’ll get to see the grapes being picked, crushed, and made into the beverage we know and love, wine. Don’t forget to take the time to go to a wine tasting, or two, or three. Enjoy the countryside in Fall, in France, with a glass of wine. Oh my. Doesn’t that sound nice?

Tofukuji Temple, Kyoto

If you can look for a moment, beyond the tops of the absolutely stunning fall foliage, you will see the Tofukuji Temple peeking through. Located in Kyoto, Japan, the whole garden surrounding the temple is an array of color during Fall. It is quite serene in the gardens, something to enjoy with the family, a loved one, or even alone. Relax in the garden and enjoy some tranquility with these gorgeous hues.

New York’s Adirondack Mountains

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the stellar Adirondack Mountains of New York. The best time is between late September and early October, but it is really quite a long season, so going a bit earlier or a bit later will be great as well. Be prepared to take a scenic drive down one of the byways of the Adirondacks, pitch a tent, stay in a B&B, live it up with friends or enjoy a romantic, colorful, getaway in the woods.

We know that you don’t have to travel to Japan or France to see such beautiful Fall colors, but wouldn’t it be a delight? Imagine the possibilities. At Gaab Travel International we can help you get just about anywhere.
